- Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) Feed-in Tariff policies are now in place in over 60 countries worldwide and are proving to be the most widespread and effective legislation for the promotion of renewables. Six US states, 2 cities and 1 Canadian province are already benefiting from FIT policies. Good FIT legislation is simple and effective. It provides access to the grid and pays a fair price to all clean energy producers for 15-20 years. Long-term contracts between producers and utilities create a stable investment environment and make it easy to borrow and lend. FIT policies create jobs and keep the profits in the community. Homeowners, farmers, schools, cities and businesses can all profit by becoming long-term renewable energy producers. FITs give us greater energy independence and energy security.
